1. Beer time!
First things first: round up a group of your friends and head to a bar.
Some of the spots we suggest offer plenty of space for playing board games, and they might even have some of their own you can borrow.
Once you’ve arrived, order a beer and find a cozy corner to relax in.
2. Game time!
Pick a game that ideally no one in your group has ever played before. Not only will you have a good time being competitive with your friends, but you’ll be learning new skills as well.
When choosing your game, ask people at the bar for suggestions of games that are typically played in Germany.
One such game that has achieved international fame is “Settlers of Catan.” And a real German classic is a game called “Mensch ärgere Dich nicht,” though what that means is a side challenge for you to find out.
In addition to board games, “Doppelkopf” is a popular card game that a German can teach you.
Once you’ve decided what to play, have fun! And remember, like famous German game designer Reiner Knizia once said: "The goal is to win, but it is the goal that is important, not the winning."
