The Elbphilharmonie is one of the best concert halls in the world, built on top of an old cocoa warehouse. Up on the Plaza, 37 metres above the Elbe, the harbour view is free. But nobody makes music out there. Not yet.
The brick base is Kaispeicher A from 1963, a warehouse that stored cocoa, tea and tobacco. Construction was budgeted at 77 million euros and ended up costing around 866 million. In return, the facade consists of 1,100 glass elements, 595 of them individually curved. In the Grand Hall, a wall cladding of 10,000 individually milled gypsum panels scatters the sound: the White Skin.
Go up to the Plaza and give a concert of at least ten seconds. Your only instruments are voices and bodies, and at least three different parts must be heard at the same time. Film your performance with the harbour in the background.
