Remembering the Horrors
The Neue Wache is a central memorial site for the victims of war and dictatorship. Its large room, featuring the statue "Mother with Dead Son" by Käthe Kollwitz at its center, creates a powerful impact.
The mortal remains of an unknown soldier and an unknown concentration camp prisoner are buried beneath the memorial plaque. They are surrounded by soil from battlefields of the Second World War and concentration camps.
Becoming aware of the horror that happened back then is already a challenge in itself. Visit and spend some time in the presence of the statue.
